A rice-greengram value chain ICT-enabled knowledge management framework is developed by Makerere University with the support from WOUGNET. The following are involved;
Activity 1: Enhancement of SUFACE platform and integration with new ICT tools. The existing SUFACE platform is enhanced with features that facilitate easy access and interactivity of the tools. Voice enabled interaction are developed, ICT tools localized into languages, and productivity prediction features added. Gender-sensitive human interfaces are developed to encourage women access to the platform, resulting to increased access to information.
Activity 2: Development of Rice-Greengram cropping system knowledge products. Teams of subject matter experts (breeders, entomologists, pathologists, economists, rural sociologists, journalists) are identified to generate relevant information and knowledge on rice- greengram production and marketing. This knowledge is packaged into digital knowledge products by content experts ready for dissemination through the ICT platforms.
Activity 3: Operationalizing and institutionalizing ICT-enabled knowledge management framework. Training seminars is conducted on the ICT framework for farmers and other stakeholders to equip them with skills of how to utilize the ICT platforms. Maintain the platform with updated content, provide continuous technical support. We created awareness and collaboration to facilitate adoption of the framework among the target communities. Institutionalize the framework within the national and local extension service delivery system. For sustainability purpose, the framework is to be handed over to government agencies and NGOs involved in agricultural extension services.
