National Stakeholder Workshop for the project ”Enhancing Rice-Green Gram Productivity in Northern Uganda” (ERIGNU)

Women of Uganda Network (WOUGNET) with kind support from NWO-WOTRO and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign affairs has been implementing the project on Enhancing Rice-Green Gram Productivity (ERIGNU) in Northern Uganda, in collaboration with the National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO), Makerere University, and The Netherlands Development Organization (SNV).

As part of knowledge sharing and accelerating up take of the project results, the National Stakeholders’ workshop for the project “Enhancing Rice-Green Gram Productivity (ERIGNU) in Northern Uganda has been organized as a one day event. The workshop is aimed at informing the project stakeholders about the outputs of the project and to draw conclusion and recommendations for continued up take of the project outputs. The project was implemented in the Districts of; Apac, Kole and Lira and sought to improve the productivity of rice and green gram as a means of; increasing land productivity, food and nutrition security, household incomes, and women economic empowerment among small holder farmers.

The main objectives of the workshop will be :-

1. To share insights concerning the project deliverables and impact it has created within the communities where it was implemented.

2. To draw conclusions and recommendations concerning the outputs made by the project and make strategies for continued up take of project results

In the ONE (1) day workshop, the project implementers shall have presentations, demonstrations, illustrations, case studies and group work where necessary. Group breakout sessions will be made to discuss issues of interest from the project and thereafter present to the stakeholders about their findings. All discussion shall be captured and a report concerning the stakeholder workshop written

The workshop is expected to draw various participants, which include; representatives of beneficiary farmers, project researchers and support team, representative of The Netherlands embassy, representatives of practitioner organizations (RUFORUM, SNV Uganda, Uganda National Farmer Federation, NARO, Seed sector, NGOs and CBOs, Operation Wealth creation), policy makers (MAAIF, representative of district Local Government for districts were the project is being implemented), representative of academia, representative of other ARF funded projects and the Media fraternity.

Various discussions and interactions will take place at the workshop , for example, Lessons from establishment of ERIGNU community seed systems, Women empowerment lessons, Experiences of integrating ICTs in rice-green gram value chain, Green gram yield prediction using linear regression, Use of multimedia content in farmer training and project clips, Rice-green gram cropping systems lessons (on soil quality, optimal cropping systems, variety selection and knowledge-creation), sessions for group work to discuss pertinent issues emanating from the project deliverables , among others.

The stakeholders’ workshop will take place on the 19th of September 2019 in Kampala , Uganda, where Conclusions and recommendations of the project outputs drawn and strategies made for the continued uptake of the project results.
